Yesterday, the world lost a radiant soul—my dear friend and God Sister, Sandra Zelaya. Sandra passed quietly yesterday morning, leaving behind a legacy of love, advocacy, and unwavering faith that touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her path.

Sandra and I first met when we were just children, too young to understand the profound connection that would link our lives forever. Through countless hours of conversation over Facebook Messenger, we shared life’s highs and lows, always finding solace in each other's words.

Sandra led a remarkable life, dedicating herself to her family and career with a passion that never waned. She chose a life of singlehood, pouring her vast capacity for love into her family and the many causes she championed. A fervent advocate for animal welfare, Sandra fought tirelessly for the responsible care and love of pets, believing in the deep, reciprocal bond between animals and humans.

Despite experiencing her own trials—navigating the complex dynamics of family relationships and managing diabetes in a country where resources are scarce—Sandra remained grateful for every opportunity to support and love those around her. Her resilience and ability to find joy in adversity were truly inspirational.

Sandra’s physical presence was as gentle as her spirit. Where my own can sometimes be overwhelming, hers was a calming force, reminding me of the power of kindness and humility.

Sharing this tribute on social media feels right, as Sandra enjoyed the connectivity and community it brought into her life. It’s a space where she and I thrived in conversation, and I believe she would have appreciated this.

Though I am heartbroken by her departure, I find comfort in our shared faith—a faith that promises a joyful reunion beyond this life. Until then, I will continue talking to her, keeping her memory alive in the stories we shared and the dreams we dared to dream together.

To all my friends and family, both online and offline, thank you for allowing me to share a piece of Sandra’s story with you. As our godmother often said, "Life is shortest at its longest." So until we meet again, Sandra, I hold onto the promise of our next great adventure.

Farewell, my dear sister, until that blessed day comes.
